Amateur Radio License Classes Each year the WVARA offers online instruction for each of the three classes of amateur radio license.
Registration for a class will be opened 60-90 days before the start of the class and will be closed 1 week before the start of the class. Technician License Class -- This class prepares the student for the Technician Class license exam. The class will be held online via Zoom on Tuesday evenings starting the day after Labor Day for 7 sessions. Class sessions will begin at 6:30 PM and should end no later than 9:00 PM. Your textbook will be sent directly to your home. You must register at least 1 week before the class starts to ensure that you will have the book before the 1st class session. General License Class -- This class prepares a student holding a Technician Class amateur radio license to upgrade to the General Class license. The class will be held online via Zoom on Tuesday evenings starting the 1st Tuesday in November for 9 sessions. Class sessions will begin at 6:30 PM and should end no later than 9:00 PM. Your textbook will be sent directly to your home. You must register at least 1 week before the class starts to ensure that you will have the book before the 1st class session. Amateur Extra License Class -- This class prepares a student holding a General Class amateur radio license to upgrade to the Amateur Extra Class license. The class will be held online via Zoom on Tuesday evenings starting the 1st Tuesday in February for 10 sessions. Class sessions will begin at 6:30 PM and should end no later than 9:00 PM. Your textbook will be sent directly to your home. You must register at least 1 week before the class starts to ensure that you will have the book before the 1st class session. Ham Radio New Operator Camp (HamCamp) -- This one-day workshop provides the newly-licensed operator practical instruction in basic electronic measurements, setting up an amateur radio station, building & erecting antennas, making contacts, and other aspects of amateur radio. Each student will make at least one VHF contact and at least one HF contact during the workshop. NOTE: HamCamp is limited to 15 participants. Pre-registration is required. |
