Amateur Radio License Classes

Each year the WVARA offers classroom instruction for each of the three classes of amateur radio license and a one-day worshop for new amateurs.

Class Schedule
Technician License Class September 5, 2017 to October 31, 2017
General Upgrade Class November 14, 2017 to January 23, 2018
Amateur Extra Upgrade Class February 13, 2018 to April 24, 2018
Ham Radio New Operator Camp February 3, 2018


Technician License Class -- This class prepares the student for the Technician Class license exam. The class meets on Tuesday evenings starting the day after Labor Day for 8 sessions.  The first session is a short introductory/organizational meeting.  The next 6 sessions are the actual intsructional classes.  Each intructional session lasts approximately 2-1/2 hours.  The final session is the examination.



General Upgrade Class -- This class prepares a student holding a Technician Class amateur radio license to upgrade to the General Class license. The class meets on Tuesday evenings starting the 1st or 2nd Tuesday in November for 12 sessions. The first session is a short introductory/organizational meeting.  The next 10 sessions are the actual intsructional classes.  Each intructional session lasts 2-1/2 hours or less depending on the material to be covered that evening.  The final session is the examination.



Amateur Extra Upgrade Class -- This class prepares a student holding a General Class amateur radio license to upgrade to the Amateur Extra Class license. The class meets on Tuesday evenings starting the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday in February for 12 sessions. The first session is a short introductory/organizational meeting.  The next 10 sessions are the actual intsructional classes.  Each intructional session lasts 2-1/2 hours or less depending on the material to be covered that evening.  The final session is the examination.



Ham Radio New Operator Camp (HamCamp) -- This one-day workshop provides the newly-licensed operator practical instruction in basic electronic measurements, setting up an amateur radio station, building & erecting antennas, making contacts, and other aspects of amateur radio.  Each student will make at least one VHF contact and at least one HF contact during the workshop.

NOTE:  HamCamp is limited to 15 participants.  Pre-registration is required.
